Volunteering with MD/DC/NoVA
The MD/DC/NoVA Chapter of HRS is always seeking dedicated volunteers. We have general and specialized needs that you can contribute your time to. Help out as much or as little as you're able to.

There are many ways in which you can help HRS rescue unwanted rabbits and find them a permanent home. They include: fostering rabbits, bunny-sitting, assisting with fundraising, staffing education tables, transporting rabbits and supplies, hosting or staffing adoption events, responding to public inquires, working with local shelters, writing articles, or creating graphics.
Fundraising
HRS relies heavily on generosity of people's time and financial contributions which means getting the word out and encouraging donations when they're needed most.
Education and Outreach
Part of HRS primary mission is advocacy and education. We actively try to spread our knowledge of domestic rabbit care and have found some support and partnerships in doing so through the years. If you have an eye for personal networking, this might a way you can contribute.
Transportation and Coordination
HRS volunteers are spread all over the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area so sometimes everyone needs a hand with something. It could be loading up a car before an event, transporting rabbits or supplies between fosters, or being a lifeline for less experienced fosters that live in more remote areas.
Event Staffing
If it's our monthly adoption events or our booth at the annual Pet Expo, there are always opportunities to contribute your time and energy. That's a great way to meet other volunteers face to face, make connections, and learn more about our organization.
Social Media/Content Creation
As with any other organization we rely on social media for public exposure and focusing attention on issues affecting the rabbit community. We like to keep our adoptable rabbit photos updated and we try to consistently post educational graphics as well as fundraising announcements.
